The Minister of Labor, Gloria Inés Ramírez, revealed in an interview with EL TIEMPO, what will be the axes of her management at the head of this portfolio, whose priority will be to reduce informality, curb the overwhelming number of unemployment and carry out a labor reform, which would seek to limit contracts under the service provision model.

“In Colombia there is an abuse of the provision of services, which has become a way of making work more precarious and outsourced. The greatest reflection is that in the State there are about 400,000 contracts for the provision of services. Those are the famous parallel payrolls. But I can’t change that overnight, because if I do, what do the people who are there do? What can I assure you? What can the Government offer? We are looking at alternatives. What is clear is that the country has to move towards formality and dignified and decent work”, Ramirez said.
He points out that in order to achieve this goal, “Generate decent jobs, promoting productive companies that contribute to the development of the country, this means solid, sustainable companies, without job insecurity and promoting employment in rural areas. We need a workforce, and this workforce has to have a commitment as well.”

Regarding aid for the unemployed, the Minister of Labor said that it is a point that must be restructured because that is a subsidy that today is operated by the family compensation funds, and there are many barriers to access it.
“If you are unemployed today, you have the right to process the subsidy. It is a month and after that there will be another month to verify if what you have said is true. In those two months, how did you live? That is why we have to give him a sense of opportunity and agility in the process. But once restructured, the subsidy will remain. We all agree that it needs to be restructured. And we will do. We are going to change it. That it be more opportune, that it be more expeditious for the worker”, Ramirez stated.

For the Minister of Labor, The principles of the reform will be that all workers have the opportunity to access a job and that they have a vital and mobile minimum wage for a decent life.
“It means that my salary can be accompanied by welfare, education, housing, health and food, in accordance with the ILO conventions”he explained.
