Luana Alonso: the School Games are the key to sports opportunities

The young Olympic swimmer Luana Alonso (18 years old) began swimming at a very young age and in the National School and Student Games she realized that she loved the sport and continued to compete.

The swimmer won multiple medals, participated in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, is on a scholarship from the National Sports Secretariat and studies in the US thanks to a sports scholarship.

The SND made official the return of the competitions corresponding to the National School and Student Games. The largest sports festival for educational institutions in Paraguay is already exciting children and adolescents from all over the national territory and Luana was present to give testimony of what the student fairs represent.

“My first school games were when I was 11 years old and at that moment I realized that I loved sports and that I wanted to compete in the Olympics and six years later I was able to fulfill that dream of going to some games in Tokyo,” said the swimmer.

The school games started his sports career, it was also the first time that he competed internationally and they were in the School Games in Colombia. “When I reached the finish line I heard everyone shouting Colombia and I thought I lost and a Colombian colleague came up and told me I won, when I got on the podium and listened to the Paraguayan anthem for the first time away from home this is what I like and I want to continue representing my country.”

“The school games were the way for doors to open for me, among them I tell you that I am on a scholarship, I study in the US and I am going to represent the country in the Asu 2022 games. These games are a power for all young people and it is a motivation to those who are just starting out” concluded the outstanding swimmer.
