They denounce the impunity of the troubadour Fernando Bécquer, accused of sexual abuse

MIAMI, United States. – The Cuban journalist and feminist Kiana Anandra denounced this Sunday the official “impunity” enjoyed by the troubadour Fernando Bécquer, accused of sexual abuse against more than a dozen Cuban women.

“They continue to give this man spaces and he, boasting of his absolute impunity, sends me captures to my private when until yesterday he had me blocked. If that’s not harassment, I don’t know what it is.” denounced on his Facebook profile the young journalist

He also said that CocoBlue And La ZorraPelua, the restaurant and terrace where Bécquer recently performed, “has ceased to be a safe space.”

“Meanwhile, I am still waiting for the corresponding institutional response, because a State that does not see the abuses is an accomplice State,” he added.

Anandra also wondered: “How many women or feminized bodies will have to be violated by Fernando Bécquer Cifuentes for the Government to consider it pertinent to arrest him, convict him, repair his victims and finish putting in place the approval and implementation of a comprehensive law against gender violence? What have they done almost a year after what happened?

In December 2021, five cuban women denounced sexual abuse suffered at the hands of Bécquer in an extensive report published by the magazine The sneeze.

In their testimonies, the interviewees reconstructed the modus operandi of the author of songs with aggressive and obscene language regarding women (“And don’t let her fall and grab her”, “I like all the pepillas”, among others).

The Cuban singer-songwriter, according to the complainants, abused young girls whom he proposed to do a “cleansing”, a religious ritual through which people could get rid of bad energies. In said “ceremony”, Bécquer has performed oral sex on the young women or has asked them to perform it on him. He has also masturbated in front of them.

Although official media have reported that Bécquer is being investigated, the musician has continued to enjoy impunity and has performed in various venues.

Last April, after the death of the musician José Luis Cortés, Bécquer wrote on their social networks: “Find a husband or a wife that you like and respect the memory of the teacher José Luis Cortés”, addressing those who had remembered that in 2019 the singer Dianelys Alfonso, The Goddess of Cuba, had denounced Cortés for abuses verbal, physical and sexual.

At the end of last December, the official media Cubadebate reported that the Cuban troubadour was under “an investigative process involving the National Revolutionary Police (PNR), the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) and the corresponding courts.” However, the Cuban authorities have not spoken again on the matter.
