The new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Liz Truss, promised a “courageous” economic program to benefit citizens. She also has in her focus to face the energy problem that the country currently presents
Elizabeth (Liz) Truss, who until this Monday, September 5, served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom, was chosen by the Conservative Party to occupy the position of Prime Minister and replace Boris Johnson, who remained in office after his resignation last July.
Truss defeated his rival, former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak, in the internal elections of the “Tories”, with 57% of the votes versus 43% of the support obtained by the conservative politician. In her victory speech, the new “premier” paid tribute to Johnson by listing the achievements of her management such as crystallizing Brexit, managing the emergency with covid-19 and leading the United Kingdom in supporting Ukraine.
“I know our beliefs resonate with the British people… I campaigned as a Conservative and will govern as a Conservative,” Truss said.
He assured that he will announce a plan to lower taxes and grow the economy, something he described as “brave” and promised to find solutions to the United Kingdom’s energy problem both due to the high cost of bills for citizens, and to correct the supply.
And it is that the economic issue will be one of the problems that Liz Truss will have to address in her functions, since an 18% inflation is expected. That, coupled with the energy situation, will be the main issues that she must address immediately once she takes office.

The new prime minister will take office on Tuesday, September 6, after Boris Johnson makes his public statement formalizing his resignation and handing it over to Queen Elizabeth II.
For the first time in 96 years of reign, the British monarch will appoint the new head of the British Government at Balmoral Castle, in Scotland, and not at Buckingham Palace due to the queen’s problems. In that sense, Liz Truss will go to Scottish territory for her appointment and will return to London to give her first Downing Street speech.
Outgoing UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson offered the Wednesday July 20 his last speech in the House of Commons of the British Parliament; after the political crisis in which the country was plunged by its handling of the accusations of inappropriate sexual conduct against the Conservative MP Chris Pincher.
There he made a kind of management balance by ensuring that he helped the country overcome the pandemic and save another nation from “barbarism”, referring to the active collaboration of the United Kingdom in the cause of Ukraine in its fight against Russia.
The votes of the «tories» in those days gave Sunak as the favorite with 137 votes, while Truss managed to reach 113 endorsements; that served to leave the Secretary of State for Trade Policy, Penny Mordaunt, out of the race, who garnered 105 ballots in her favor.
