Luis Suárez scores, shines and Nacional wins the Clásico against Peñarol

Hoy Paraguay

Luis Suárez scored a great goal, upset Peñarol’s defense and his Nacional won this Sunday 3-1 in a new edition of the Uruguayan Clásico.

In the match corresponding to the fourth day of the Torneo Clausura, the number 9 shone, had fun and scored one of the best goals of the current competition.

The Uruguayan classic today had as a great attraction the return of ‘el Pistolero’ Suárez after a long period in European football.

The meeting with Peñarol, Nacional’s fiercest rival, was played with Suárez back at the Gran Parque Central stadium.

The former player from Groningen, Ajax, Liverpool, Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid started very active and quickly became the figure of a Nacional that dominated the first half from start to finish.

Favorite for their play and their position in the standings, the local team handled the ball thanks to the work of Diego Rodríguez and Felipe Carballo in midfield, and the support of Alfonso Trezza and Camilo Cándido on the wings.

Around 17 minutes, José Luis Rodríguez created the first dangerous situation with a shot that narrowly missed. Later, goalkeeper Kevin Dawson drowned out Cándido’s first cry with a great save.

On the other hand, the goalkeeper and captain of the National Sergio Rochet became at times a luxury spectator since Peñarol bet only on long balls always well resolved by Leonardo Coelho and Mathías Laborda.

And although the Tricolor lacked the good game that Franco Fagúndez usually brings, number 10 had a move to become a key piece.

After 45 minutes of the first half, the youngster executed a corner kick that Laborda took advantage of to transform into a goal with a powerful header.

Nacional took the lead and thus managed to reflect the superiority it had shown so far.

At the beginning of the second half, when the Nacional fans were enjoying the good level of their team, they had a greater joy: at 52 minutes, Suárez, with an impressive volley from outside the area, scored a great goal that put the match 2-0 .

However, when everything indicated that Nacional was about to increase the advantage, Peñarol returned to the game with a goal from Kevin Méndez in the 61st minute.

Immediately, the game was stopped due to disturbances in the stands and resumed at 69 minutes.

And when Nacional returned, he liquidated the game. At 75 minutes, after Trezza fought a ball that he had almost lost, Cándido took advantage of his clearance to score with a soft right touch.

In this way, they made it 3-1 in the end in a game in which Peñarol was able to discount again on a couple of occasions, but in which they were also able to suffer a greater thrashing.

The important thing for Nacional is that they won, they practically took their rival out of the fight for the title, they stretched their advantage in the accumulated Annual Table, they saw the best Suárez and they celebrated with a grandstand that began by remembering Santiago ‘Morro’ García and ended applauding a team that shone.
