The Minister of Economy and Finance, Kurt Burneoaffirmed this Sunday that investors are frightened away by the political crisis, amid the revealing audios of conversations between the head of the Congress of the republicLady Camones, and the leader of Alliance for Progress (APP), César Acuña, in which they set the Parliament’s agenda.
During the ministers’ press conference, Burneo commented that economic agents are very aware of whether a public institution is predictable in order to invest.
“Predictability is an important factor for an investor to decide to apply resources, the problem is when the institutionality is negatively affected by people outside the State, who decide part of the agenda, in this case the president of Congress (Lady Camones). Faced with this, investors look with concern because the entity is not predictable. So, under what context can an investor apply resources when a public institution defines things with a certain bias?”, he referred.
Under this political crisis, the minister asked himself: “If I want to invest, who do I contact? Do I address the party that the president of Congress is part of or the president of Parliament? Who should I sign up for if I intend to invest in the country?”.
Likewise, Burneo indicated that the informality of the Legislative generates uncertainty in the economic agents.
However, he stressed that, on the MEF side, they are doing everything possible to get closer to investors and the private sector.
“We are seeking to restore the trust that has come to less. Unfortunately these types of events go in the opposite direction. Public institutions need to be predictable because the moment they cease to be predictable, one more factor is added to the uncertainty on the part of economic agents and, as a consequence, investment decisions slow down; that is, it takes much longer for an investor to make a decision”, he mentioned.
What do they say in the audio?
In the audio broadcast by Epicentro TV, the leader of the Alliance for Progress (APP), César Acuña, is heard asking the head of Congress, Lady Camones, to prioritize a bill that would benefit his candidacy for the Regional Government of La Libertad .
Also in the clip, Camones assures that the advance of the elections “not the closest solution” because if Castillo Terrones is vacated, possibly they too would have to leave their positions.
In the conversation, the opinions of other congressmen, such as Alejandro Soto and Heidy Juárez, as well as former parliamentarian Luis Valdez, who is now an advisor to the APP caucus, are also heard.
