Since the night of this Friday, September 2, inhabitants of Santa Elena de Uairén, Gran Sabana municipality of Bolívar state, suffered hours of anguish due to a new overflow of the Uairén River, whose floods left a child dead.
According to witnesses, the 3-year-old boy slipped off his mother when she was bitten by a snake. The current dragged him and he was found some time later without vital signs; he reviewed the Caroni Mail.

The mother of the victim was trying to flee with her children from the flood and to look for a safe place, when the accident occurred in the Caño Amarillo sector.

Among the sectors affected by this new flood are: Caño Amarillo, Ezequiel Zamora, Kewei 2, Brisas de Sampay, Nazareno, Mana Krü, La Fe street, central town, Morichalito, La Laguna and Cielo Azul.
Residents requested support from Corpoelec to make a preventive power cut in the most affected areas, for security measures.
On the other hand, they questioned the expenses that the municipality made a few weeks ago to celebrate the foundation of Santa Elena de Uairén, which included the presentation of the singer Luis Silva and the Criollo House group, while the town’s drains continue without receiving due maintenance. .
On July 30, heavy rains and the overflow of the Uairén River flooded 80% of Santa Elena de Uairén. These floods affected 17 sectors.
The preliminary report of Gran Sabana Civil Protection, dated August 5, reported 1,895 families and 1,569 homes affected. They also counted 1,155 victims and six collapsed houses. In total, 6,516 people were affected.
15 affected families
According to a report issued by the Municipal Directorate of Civil Protection (PC), at least 15 families were affected by the rains that fell on the night of Friday, September 2. They are all housed in the Hotel La Patrona.
