Another photo that could impact by its beauty (a drawing seems); but that actually impacts more for its implications. What undulates above is not the roof of the house. What undulates below is not a fence, or a carefully trimmed bush. It is ash. Pure ash. Volcano ash.
On September 19, the Cumbre Vieja volcano erupted in La Palma, Canary Islands, Spain. It was no small thing. The damages are still counted, just a few days ago the recovery phase finally began. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but thousands of people were left homeless. And the local landscape changed.
The unique geometry of the ash amazes. It evokes perfection if you want to be whimsical of nature. The eruption of a volcano is one more event in the eternal cycle of things. It is a logic that is difficult for us to assume, but it touches. In the end we are simply passengers.
