Keiko Fujimori He spoke again in favor of advancing the elections. In his public reappearance, through his personal TikTok account, the head of Fujimorism pointed out that “it is time for solutions”, in relation to the political crisis that the country is experiencing due to the alleged acts of corruption in which the Government is involved.
During the video, the former presidential candidate points out that she believes in the presidential vacancy and highlighted the work of the Fuerza Popular congressmen in the two attempts promoted in Parliament. However, he also stated that, since there is no agreement on the matter, the other scenario to take into account in the current scenario would be a possible advance in the general elections.
“The solution goes through the vacancy, but it is not the only way out. If there is no consensus, it is time to discuss the early elections, in which I clearly indicate that I will not participate. If the elections are brought forward, I will not be a candidate for the presidency, but I will be an activist in favor of the search for consensus to get out of this stalemate,” Fujimori said.
Also, the leader of People’s Force (FP) made a call to the citizens with the aim of “informing themselves, getting involved and fighting” in any of the political scenarios that may arise in the immediate future.
It is worth mentioning that Keiko Fujimori’s party is precisely one of the main bastions of the vacant bloc in Congress, together with Renovación Popular and Avanza País.
An orange fracture?
Although it is not the first time that Keiko Fujimori has spoken out in favor of early elections, her position contradicts what has been expressed by the congressmen of the orange caucus, who have publicly shown their reluctance to join a proposal other than the vacancy.
First, on August 25, in an interview with RPP, Hernando Guerra García showed his disagreement with the measure and slipped a criticism of proposals suggestive of an early election, like the one presented at the time by legislator Digna Calle, second vice president of Congress.
“We are in a representative democracy and the Executive is the one that will call for elections, and that is the first thing that must be understood. They are not the regional governors, the NGO nor the bishops who can say if there are elections”, declared the FP representative.
Another voice of Fujimorism that is inclined not to take part in projects that point in this direction is Martha Moyano, first vice president of Congress and a key player in Fuerza Popular in the Legislative.
“There is a confusion in the concept. The Congress of the Republic cannot advance elections because it is not its responsibility. The one who advances and calls elections is the Executive. The Congress of the Republic can cut his mandate. That goes through a constitutional reform (…) As (Keiko Fujimori) says, I’m on the same line, we’re on the same line as a bench. Simply, when we enter the clarification, it is that the advance of elections cannot be ”, Moiano pointed out.
