The Regulatory Center for Urgencies and Emergencies of Cartagena (CRUED) confirmed the death of one of the riders, identified as Orlando Olivos Niño, 67, after the serious injuries and fractures suffered in the accident, where a truck ran over a group of cyclists, who were traveling along the Troncal de Occidente road, which leads from Turbaco to Arjona (Bolívar),

CRUED reported that this person was the one in the worst situationsince, he was hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in a health center in Cartagena.

“The ambulance team transferred the patients to Cartagena, who were taken to the Barú Clinic, one of them with greater commitment, where He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit and unfortunately in the afternoon they informed us at the care center that he had died. He had a head injury”, indicated Álvaro Cruz, director of CRUED.

Cruz added that the remaining six injured were identified as Brayan David Espinosa Valenzuela, Tobías Cabarcas Pajaro, Freddy Montalvo Alcalá, Libardo José Puello Espinoza, Roger Cabarcas Torres and Alejandro Alcides Bracho, who remain hospitalized.

It should be noted that the Metropolitan Police of Cartagena also confirmed that the driver of the vehicle who caused the accident and who fled the scene, He voluntarily presented himself before the authorities to answer for the unfortunate fact.

“The person who apparently was driving the vehicle voluntarily presented himself at the Turbaco Police station. The Transit authorities in coordination with the Prosecutor’s Office meet to advance the entire judicial process”, said Brigadier General Nicolás Zapata, commander of the Cartagena Metropolitan Police.

“The invitation to road actors such as drivers, pedestrians, motorcyclists and cyclists is to respect traffic regulations and road users to avoid this type of situation,” Zapata concluded.
