Schwartzman can’t beat Tiafoe and says goodbye to the US Open

Schwartzman, number 16 in the world, fell to Tiafoe (26th) 7-6 (7), 6-4, 7-5 in three hours and two minutes of play on the Louis Armstrong court, the second largest in the Grand New York slam.

The Argentine enjoyed numerous occasions to pocket the first set. He first enjoyed a 2-5 lead and later up to five set points but Tiafoe stood his ground supported by his home crowd.

The burly American tennis player turned the tie-break on its head and took the opening set, a blow from which Schwartzman never recovered from the blow.

Always in tow of Tiafoe, the tennis player from Buenos Aires threw in the towel when he suffered a final break in the final stretch of the third set.

Schwartzman’s best result at Flushing Meadows will continue to be his two quarterfinal appearances in 2017 and 2019.
