Opposition announces third vacancy motion against Pedro Castillo, how did the previous ones go?

On that occasion, the congressmen of Peru Libre, Together for Peru, Purple Party, We Are Peru, Alliance for Progress, Popular Action and Podemos Peru formed the block that voted against the vacancy being discussed in plenary.

The vacancy motion promoted by Chirinos Venegas was based on the alleged illegal use of public funds of the Regional Government of Junín in the 2021 electoral campaign of Peru Libre, the appointment of high-ranking officials linked to terrorism and accused of advocating terrorism. In addition, the alleged influence peddling in promotions in the Armed Forces.

Second Vacancy Motion

The second vacancy motion against the head of state was presented by congressmen from the benches of People’s Force, People’s Renewal Y Country advances in March 2022 with 49 signatures.

On March 28, after several hours of debate, the initiative managed to get 55 votes in favor, 54 against and 19 abstentions.but for it to be approved, 87 votes in favor were necessary.

At that time, the Free Peru, Democratic Peru and Together for Peru groups voted as a block against the impeachment. Other benches such as Acción Popular, Alianza para el Progreso and Somos Perú voted dividedly.

Some of the arguments used to support this motion for vacancy due to moral incapacity were the alleged irregular promotions in the Armed Forces and the award of the Puente Tarata project to a company linked to the lobbyist Karelim López. In addition, the appointments within the Cabinet of Aníbal Torres with questioned minister were questioned.
