Last Thursday (1st), the period of closed season for the true grouper came into force (Hyporthodus niveatus), potato fish (Lopholatilus villarii) and piramutaba (Brachyplatystoma vaillantii), which means that fishing for these species is prohibited. The closed season for piramutaba runs until November 31, and that for grouper and potatofish runs until October 31, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa).
For piramutaba, trawling is prohibited in the area where the species occurs, between the border between Brazil and French Guiana and the border between Pará and Maranhão, according to Normative Instruction (IN) Mapa n°6 of 13 April 2020. Individuals and companies that work in the capture, in the form of trawling, in the same way, in the conservation, processing, industrialization or commercialization of the piramutaba must complete the stock declaration by September 9, 2022, according to Annex I of IN MAPA No. 6 of 2020, so that they can continue to carry out these activities, exclusively during the closed season.
In the case of grouper and potatofish, fishing carried out between 100 and 600 meters deep, on the Southeast and South coast of the country, is prohibited, according to Ordinance SG/MMA N°40 of July 27, 2018. People physical or companies must provide the stock declaration, completed according to Annex I of Ordinance SG/MMA No. 40 of 2018, until September 10, 2022. The period applies to storage, transport, processing, industrialization and commercialization.
Inventory declarations can be delivered online or physically in the federal superintendencies of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply.
