The Minister of Education, Edgar Pari Chambi, came out in defense of President Luis Arce Catacora, and demanded respect from the leader of the teaching profession, José Luis Álvarez, who in a march on Friday asked that the president “open your eyes and see that Bolivian teachers are the lowest paid in South America”.

The minister, during a press conference in Cochabamba, said that his office has the obligation to carry out an education based on the requirements of our people. He recalled as disastrous events the closing of the school year in the management of Jeanine Áñez and the Covid-19 pandemic “that hit the whole world and Bolivia is not exempt from it. ANDBased on this, we work on updating the curriculum that responds to the needs of the socioeconomic development of Bolivia.Because education is fundamental.

However, he warned that it is important to support this work with the updating of teachers, and highlighted the holding of an international seminar on educational quality to reflect on advances.

“The teacher must be up to date. Unfortunately, on Friday we saw a march led by the leader of the urban teachers, José Luis Álvarez. We do not know when leaders express themselves with words that damage morality and good customs. A teacher must be educated even in the harshest protests, he must be a reference for the students.”

Professor Álvarez pointed out that “teachers, like all workers, like the president, arewe know how to eat, we know how to dress and to that extent we are not divine spirits that we can live without having to meet our needs,” Álvarez said, adding that “what the president has to do is open his head a little and see how much a teacher earns abroad and we will see that Bolivian teachers are one of the worst paid teachers in South America and worst in the world”, he indicated.

The minister warned that President Luis Arce works for the economic development of the country and demanded respect from the leader of the teaching profession.
