The head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), Kurt Burneo, stated that Peru should grow around 5% to absorb the 300,000 young people who enter the labor market each year. Currently, the MEF projection for the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is that it advances 3.3% in 2022, and 3.5% in 2023.
“If we wanted to absorb new workers looking for a job, given the current structure, we should grow around 5%. That means that 3.3% is insufficient”, she commented.
He pointed out that, for Peru in seven years to reach the GDP per capita of Mexico, one of the countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) with the lowest figure (US$19,000 in constant 2017 dollars, that is, adjusted for changes in prices), needs to grow 6% per year. With an advance of 3%, it would be able to reach those figures only in 14 years.

The minister appeared before the plenary session of Congress to support the budget project of S / 214,800 million for 2023, which has a growth of 9% compared to this year.
Of this amount, 19.5% will go to education, 11.5% to health, 9.5% to transportation, 6.7% to social prevention, and 6.7% to public order and security.
