Civil Defense in the western killings confirmed this Thursday the discovery of the body of Hensley Boza, who died while practicing underwater fishing and whose body had been missing since Monday.
The young man, 19 years old, a resident of the provincial capital, lost his life near the coast of the bay when he practiced this sport on Monday, according to the island’s media.
Speaking to TV Yumurí, Lieutenant Colonel William González Hernández, head of Civil Defense in the province, said that around 1 p.m. on Monday, after the third dive, the young man did not return to the surface, so that his girlfriend immediately sought help.
“The cause was a blackout. With this he loses oxygen, which does not reach his brain, and then he goes to the bottom of the sea and drowns, “said González Hernández.
Rescuers from the Fire Department used five divers for the search throughout Monday afternoon, although due to inclement weather it was postponed until Tuesday, when the body was found 400 meters from the north coast and 37 meters deep.
The body was rescued by divers from the Red Cross, Civil Defense and family and friends on Tuesday morning, according to this report. The paramedical services attended the place to help the family, as well as the experts.
This has been the third case of people drowned during the practice of underwater fishing in Matanzas so far this year, according to the report.
