The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, held a meeting this Friday around noon with the Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber, at the residence of Súarez y Reyes. The reason for the meeting was to discuss profiles and possible names to replace Luis Calabria, who resigned from his position days ago.
At the end of the meeting, and from the official vehicle, the Minister of the Interior said that “we handle some names. We are going to make inquiries over the weekend and on Monday we will surely tell the press the name”.
He added that replacing Luis Calabria “is difficult”, given that he has “special training”. According to the Secretary of State, he must have “legal strength and political ties.”
Calabria’s resignation came after last Wednesday he acknowledged that he had a consultation with an ophthalmologist at the Police Hospital, precisely when the coalition government and the opposition discuss the alleged discretionary care of civilians and ministry authorities in the institution, which has troops as its target population.
