Ramón González Daher should go to jail no matter his age, says prosecutor

Hoy Paraguay

“We have to understand that this exception (of not going to jail when you are an elderly person) is in the case of a precautionary measure of preventive detention, not for a final conviction,” the Legal prosecutor clarified to the digital medium El Observador.

The representative of the Public Ministry pointed out that there is a final sentence here and that once it has been executed, Ramón González Daher must go to jail to serve his 15-year sentence to which he was sentenced when he was found guilty of the acts of money laundering, usury and false statement. The same situation occurs with Fernando González Karjallo, who has to serve a five-year prison sentence for usury.

For Legal, the conviction is historic since it was possible to investigate and sentence members of a group of great power, which when the process began, it was not believed that it would reach this end.

Ramón González Daher and his son were sentenced in first and second instance and today the Criminal Chamber of the Court did not admit the extraordinary cassation appeal that the defense of those sentenced raised and made the sentences firm.

The former sports leader from Luque also has two open cases that are in the final stage and could be brought to trial in the coming months. In addition to more than 10 processes in the investigation stage and pending imputation. All these cases have to do with issues related to extortion and usury.

The entrance Ramón González Daher should go to jail no matter his age, says prosecutor was first published in diary TODAY.
