Discussion of the National Guard advances and the PRI avoids confrontation with Morena

In contrast, it was the deputies of the National Action (PAN) and the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) who ratified the opposition unity and led, together with the Citizen Movement (MC), the arguments against the reforms.

In the first hours, only the “meaningless” motions, according to Morena, prolonged the debate tonight, which they urged to speed up, so that almost at midnight a brief recess was decreed to speed up the debate from now on.

In the hours to come after the vote in general – which will be at dawn – the release of 289 reservations is expected, which could prolong the approval until this Saturday.

The first steamroller of the 4T

In just 53 hours, the legislative processing of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s proposal began, between when he sent it to the Chamber of Deputies and the discussion of the amendments in general began in that body.

At 8:04 p.m. tonight, the coordinator of the Morena deputies, Ignacio Mier, presented it on the platform. On behalf of the bench, Mier announced that his group endorsed the presidential initiative and requested the process of “urgent and obvious resolution.”

In 20 minutes all the motions that opposed the ‘fast track’ processing were discarded and in an economic vote, Morena applied its first steamroller of the ordinary period.

Thus began the expedited processing of reforms to the Organic Law of Public Administration, the Law of the National Guard, the Organic Law of the Mexican Army and Air Force, and the Law of Promotions and Rewards of the Mexican Army and Air Force, regarding the National Guard.

In 40 more minutes the initial positions of the benches were unburdened, and until then the PRI was heard.

On behalf of the tricolor, the Mexiquense deputy Carlos Iriarte, considered close to former President Enrique Peña Nieto, defended that the Sedena continue in security tasks for five additional years.

This is in the same vein as the initiative that the PRI placed on the agenda today, signed by deputy Yolanda de la Torre, and in which she proposed to extend from 5 to 9 years, until 2029, the term that the GN would have to develop its structure, capacities and territorial implantation as a civil force, for which the Sedena would continue in security tasks.

However, in the tribune, the PRI considered that the mechanism proposed by Morena for Sedena to continue with these tasks is unconstitutional.
