Machado asked the IACHR to mediate for Venezuelans abroad to vote

For Machado, the Venezuelans who migrated have the right to be part of the primaries through which a unitary candidate who faces Chavismo in the presidential elections will be decided.

The political leader María Corina Machado reported this Friday, February 2, that she filed a petition with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) for the agency to grant precautionary measures to the political rights that Venezuelans abroad have.

According to the National Coordinator of Vente Venezuela, currently only 101,600 Venezuelans abroad are registered and authorized to vote on the electoral roll of the National Electoral Council (CNE), despite the fact that international organizations count approximately 6 million Venezuelans outside the country.

For this reason, this group of people suffer a violation of their rights as Venezuelan citizens, as they are unable to vote in electoral contests. Faced with this situation, Machado requested precautionary measures to exert pressure against the CNE in order for it to recognize the new locations of the migrants.

In its documentthe political leader emphasizes that Venezuelans must participate in acts that “are related to the political, social, economic or any other destiny of the Venezuelan nation,” emphasizing that migrants must have the right to be part of the primaries through which it will be decided by a unitary candidate who faces Chavismo in the presidential elections.

In this sense, he emphasizes that it is vital that Chavismo officials do not participate in the primary election process, but that there must be a civic proposal that leads to electoral solutions given the difficulties that have arisen in recent processes organized by biased entities. towards Chavez.

To achieve this, the opposition leader calls for the advice of international bodies specialized in the treatment of migrants and refugees, as well as in electoral matters, such as the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR); the Center for Electoral Assistance and Promotion (CAPEL) or the electoral team of the Organization of American States (OAS).
