The legislator Martha Moyano showed a very different opinion on the advancement of elections than that of Keiko Fujimorileader of the party that brought her to Congress. The former presidential candidate supported Digna Calle’s initiative to advance the general electoral process and affirmed that he had asked Nano Guerra García, president of the Constitution Commission, to prioritize his debate.
In that sense, Moyano stated that his party or bench cannot determine what projects to see or not in the parliamentary working group.
“It is not the parliamentary group that decides whether to prioritize or not, that is incorrect (…). We are saying that the Constitution Commission has to prioritize bills that have entered, but the party or the bench does not decide it —because they could not do it— ”, he affirmed in dialogue with RPP.
He also stressed that “The early elections cannot be done” by the Legislature, since the Executive is in charge of advancing or convening the electoral process and affirmed that they could only focus on the removal of the president.
“The Congress yes, it can cut the president’s mandate, and that goes through a constitutional reform (…), it goes through two legislatures of 87 votes. While we go to that procedure, we will arrive at 2024. That is why we say that the vacancy is faster, ”he added.
Third presidential vacancy motion
At another time, the Fujimori exhorted the parliamentarians who have been supporting President Pedro Castillo to reassess their position regarding the vacancy motion promoted by congressmen Edward Málaga and Diego Bazan.
“I invoke again the lords of People’s Action. The bench is divided and, of course, we always respect when the benches have internal problems; but I call on those who support Mr. Castillo with his vote, and who are not supporting a vacancy proposal in the face of all the facts that are being shown and in the face of all the political crisis that exists. I also invoke the other benches (…), that all the speech that is given in public, in the Plenary, be expressed in the vote”, he said.
