The head of the National Institute against Discrimination, Xenophobia and Racism (Inadi), Victoria Donda, stated that the seriousness of the attack on Vice President Cristina Fernández should not be read as “an isolated event”, but rather as “part of a context of growing hatred”, in which the assassination attempt was a “foreseeable” event.
“Hate speech not only expresses an opinion, but also seeks to generate an effect on those who listen to it, seeks to generate an action. The attempted assassination that we saw last night is one of the most predictable events of political violence that there was,” Donda told Télam about the assassination attempt that the Vice President suffered last night at the door of her house located at the intersection of Juncal and Uruguay streets, when she was greeting militants.
“What other woman received so much hate so systematically planned?”Victoria Donda
In this sense, the head of the Inadi stated that “there is an ideological violence of the media that spoke of the destruction of Cristina as a symbol of a sector of politics”for which he considered that it was not “an isolated event”, but “part of a context of growing hatred”.
In addition, he considered that “the hatred of the Vice President” turned “the flag” certain party and institutional sectors.
And she wondered: “What other woman received so much hate so systematically planned?”.
To respond to hate speech, Donda proposed that there be “legal tools to punish them” and recalled that there are bills in this regard.
