The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights condemned this Friday the attempted assassination of the vice president of Argentina, Cristina Fernández, and asked that all the elements surrounding this aggression be clarifiedas well as the return to calm through dialogue.
“We are shocked and it is crucial that an investigation be done into what and how things happened,” the body’s spokeswoman, Ravina Shamdasani, said in Geneva.

A man was arrested this Thursday in Buenos Aires after trying to shoot the former president in the surroundings of her home when a vigil was being held in her support, among whose participants the attacker infiltrated.
“Any type of political violence is reprehensible and it is important that differences be resolved through dialogue,” added the spokeswoman.

Argentina is going through a period of strong political tension and Fernández faces a request for jail in the framework of an oral trial that follows him for alleged corruption in the adjudication of public works during his government (2007-2015).
