“Down with Díaz-Canel”, they paint on a Havana wall

“Abajo Díaz-Canel”, pintan en una pared habanera

Madrid Spain.- A new graffiti of opposition to Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel appeared this Thursday in Lawton, Diez de Octubre municipality.

“Down with Díaz-Canel”, was read on the wall of a park in this neighborhood of the capital, as can be seen in the image shared by the user of Facebook identified as the Maceo Family.

As is often the case, the Cuban authorities immediately moved to cover up the cartel. In an image posted on Twitter by the activist Albert Fonse the sign can be seen erased with blue paint.

“How they spend time and resources trying to cover up the truth,” Fons wrote.

For his part, the journalist Mario J. Pentón, stated: “The dictator orders to cover them up while the fat magpie in the liar invents implausible stories to demerit the muffled cry of the people who ask for freedom.”

In comments to Penton’s post, user @grandma_annia referred to Lawton as a neighborhood that “has been very brave since ancient times.”

In recent years this type of graffiti has become more and more frequent throughout the country, as a sign of popular opposition to the Cuban regime.

Last Friday similar graffiti appeared on the wall of a building near the Metropolitan cinema, in the municipality of Playa.

Last June, a graffiti of “Homeland and Life” on one of the walls of the “Eladio Cid” stadium, located on Finlay Street, in the town of Los Pinos in the Havana municipality of Arroyo Naranjo, mobilized the regime’s police.

In addition to “Down with Díaz-Canel” and “Homeland and Life,” Cubans paint other posters such as “Down with the dictatorship” and “Freedom for political prisoners,” expressing their disagreement with the Island Government.
