So far, no further details of the meeting have emerged, held at a time when the Island is going through a severe economic crisis and is trying to boost foreign investment and recover tourist activity to alleviate the effects of this complex situation.
The Swiss company, considered the oldest luxury hotel group in Europe, has been present in Cuba since 2017, when it opened the Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski, the first five-star plus on the island. Located in the old Manzana de Gómez, in Old Havana , this Kempinski-managed facility has six levels and 246 rooms.
In addition, it also has the Gran Hotel Bristol in Havana, located in areas near the National Capitol, while the Cayo Guillermo Resort Kempinski is located in the northern keys of central Cuba.
After opening its first hotel on the island, the Swiss group had announced that it planned to increase its presence on the island. Then, the general manager of Manzana Kempinski, Xavier Destribats, revealed that the company had several projects —especially beach hotels— in conjunction with the Cuban state company Gaviota.
Kempinski currently operates around 79 five-star hotels in 34 countries around the world. Its portfolio of offerings includes grand historic hotels, city hotels, resorts and superior residences.
