Head of INPE estimates that in "15 or 20 days" they will rule on the request to change Alberto Fujimori's prison

The head of the National Penitentiary Institute of Peru (), Omar Méndez, spoke about the request made by Congressman Guillermo Bermejo (Democratic Peru) for former President Alberto Fujimori to be transferred to another prison.

Méndez pointed out that the first thing they will do is transfer this request to the technical areas for their respective evaluation and later they will pronounce themselves in the next 15 or 20 days.

This request will have to be distributed to the technical areas and after that we will have to evaluate the situation (…) The requests could be being analyzed, perhaps what it takes, in 15 or 20 days we could have a pronouncement of all the technical areas”, he stated in dialogue with TV Peru.

The head of INPE also clarified that the decision to change the prison is not up to him, for which he assured that he will only be in charge of supporting the technical support that he provides on Bermejo’s request.

(Does Alberto Fujimori qualify to be transferred to a common prison?) That competence does not belong to the president of INPE, the president of INPE supports all his decisions on technical grounds. I must remember that any situation of a prison transfer involves a security, health, treatment report and even an intelligence report.“, held.

Statements by Omar Méndez Irigoyen, head of INPE

Last Wednesday, Guillermo Bermejo made this request alleging that we are all equal before the law and that no one, according to the Constitution, should be discriminated against for reasons of origin, race, sex, language, religion, opinion, economic condition or any other reason.

Being that constitutional premise, we ask you to Mr. Alberto Kenya Fujimori Fujimori stops receiving unequal treatment compared to all those prosecuted and sentenced in Peru and is transferred to a prison, like any other Peruvian”, said the legislator.
