MIAMI, United States.- Cuban Civil Defense authorities in the province of Matanzas confirmed this Thursday the rescue of the body of Hensley Boza, a 19-year-old resident of the provincial capital who died near the coast of the bay when he practiced spearfishing.
According to statements made to TV Yumurí by Lieutenant Colonel William González Hernández, head of the Civil Defense in Matanzas, around one in the afternoon last Monday, the young man and his girlfriend were near the coast where they practiced underwater fishing.
After the third dive, when Hensley Boza did not return to the surface, his girlfriend sought help.
The official information details that the rescuers from the Fire Department searched Boza with their five divers throughout Monday afternoon, but “due to inclement weather and the night, the search was postponed for Tuesday, when 400 meters from the coast north and 37 meters deep we found the body”.
Hensley Boza’s body was rescued, according to a note from the official Cubadebate, by divers from the Red Cross, Civil Defense and family and friends on Tuesday morning. “The cause was a blackout. With this he loses oxygen, which does not reach his brain, and then he goes to the bottom of the sea and drowns, ”explains the report.
In 2022 in Matanzas three people have died due to drowning, who according to the authorities were diving and fishing.
Last week a seven-year-old Cuban boy died after allegedly drowning in the Finalet canal, in the Sagua la Grande municipality, Villa Clara province.
According to information published on the Sagua la Grande Noticias Facebook page, the minor lived in the Caguaguas neighborhood and died on August 21.
“The hearse was just taken away, at the scene, as we are informed, the PNR and the fire truck were also there,” said a source who cited several witnesses.
