The representatives of the Church sent the document that was also shared by Monsignor Miguel Cabrejos after the Government sent to the Legislative Power a bill that proposes that August 30 be declared “National Day of missing persons during the period of violence 1980 -2000″.
“Introducing a parallel commemoration on the same day in the Feast of Santa Rosa de Lima would directly affect the celebration of this expression of popular religiosity spread throughout Peru”they warn.
The Episcopal Conference highlights that this date in honor of the Patron Saint of America and the Philippines unites Peruvian families and strengthens “the faith and hope of our people to build a fraternal and supportive country.”
“Today, when seeking to promote and revalue women, the image and life of Santa Rosa de Lima cannot be minimized, a lay woman, a distinguished Peruvian saint, a model of dedication and service to the most vulnerable in society”stand out.
Government defends project
The Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Félix Chero, explained that the proposal signed by President Pedro Castillo and the Prime Minister, Aníbal Torres, is proposed within the framework of the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, recognized by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 2010.
