Our country has just been triple awarded at the World Travel Awards (WTA) 2022 in South America: Best Culinary Destination, Best Cultural Destination and Best Tourist Attraction (for Machupicchu). The good news was announced by the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (Promperú).
Likewise, Peru obtained a total of 20 nominations in this regional edition, standing out as a leading destination in adventure tourism, cruises, whale watching, among others.
What are the World Travel Awards
The WTA Awards, which have been held since 1993, are awarded to distinguish and celebrate excellence in all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry.
In addition, the brand is recognized as the best hallmark of excellence in the field and its awards are considered the ‘Oscars of Tourism’ by the Wall Street Journal.
The ceremony was attended by the main decision-makers in the tourism sector, as well as important commercial and consumer media, according to Promperú.
Why we are awarded
It should be remembered that Peru has received recognition as the best world culinary destination eight times.
This is due, in part, to the great biological diversity that it has. “We are the first country in varieties of potatoes and peppers, in addition to hosting a wide variety of species of corn, Andean grains, tubers and fruits”, explains Promperú.
The use of this great variety of inputs has allowed forging a gastronomic proposal “varied, tasty and unique”, which attracts travelers from all over the world interested in “discover the secret ingredients that make us so special”.
