In the sixth meeting of cargo transport businessmen, organized by Fedetranscarga, the transport minister, William Reyes, explained to this guild the objectives of the government of President Gustavo Petro in terms of connectivity, mobility, modernization of the vehicle fleet and road safety.
Above all, Reyes highlighted the premise of working through dialogue for “agree, agree to comply and comply to transform“.

“The logistics of freight transport, the development of road infrastructure, intermodality and road safety are priority issues for this government. We have a genuine interest in guaranteeing the population’s access to quality transport in all modes, in safe and sustainable conditions. We will also work to improve cargo transport logistics as a way to strengthen the economic reactivation of the Nation.”, affirmed Minister Reyes González.
In the same way, he reiterated to the transporters that “theThe doors of the Ministry will always be open to all the actors that are part of the sector, especially cargo carriers”.
Likewise, the portfolio manager delegated the transporters as the “guards of our concessions“, for guarantee the best conditions on the roads, compliance with concession contracts in terms of road infrastructure maintenance, toll rates, among others.

Regarding incentives, Reyes, after having listened to the requests of the cargo carriers, assured that the Ministry of Transport continues to work to publish a resolution open to comments from the entire sector.
This resolution includes three major requests from carriers: Now it will be permanent for all transporters to access the cargo fleet modernization program, the resolution through which the change of application is authorized after the disintegration of the vehicle and the validation of vehicle records.

On the other hand, the minister stressed that President Petro’s priority is boost transport for a productive economy, taking advantage of the enormous potential for intermodality and the change of the energy matrix, seeking a more efficient, profitable and sustainable operation.
“Far from trying to replace road transport, using rail and river modes in the country will complement and strengthen the sector. Bringing goods to the modal exchange nodes will require short and frequent trips, thus reducing the carbon footprint of the sector, without this meaning reducing the income of transport companies and vehicle drivers”, explained the head of the Ministry of Transport.

The Government also seeks to promote the development of specialized and intermodal logistics platforms (rail – road – river) that reduce logistics times and costs.
“Thus, the country’s competitiveness indicators will be improved, facilitating trade and eliminating barriers to access international markets for products from the countryside and national industry. It is worth mentioning that the promotion of the rail and fluvial modes is underway with the formulation of Master Plans for each mode.“, he pointed.
