Adrián Peña: We are thinking about closing the La Teja refinery by 2035

This Monday, December 27, the presentation of the first Long-Term Climate Strategy (ECLP) of our country was made. In this framework, Minister Peña said that the strategy is part of the consolidation of a State policy on the environment and climate change, with a horizon of 2050.

He said that at the center of the Long-Term Climate Strategy are the concepts of “adaptation and resilience”, and in an agricultural-based country, with a high presence of residence on the coast, and national actions for adaptation and resilience to change climate are essential.

He also referred to the fact that the government has proposed “to move towards CO2 neutrality by 2050, with the focus on changing energy, and in particular on transportation and the transition to electricity.”

Later, in statements to the press, Peña said that it is intended that by 2035, all vehicles are zero emissions, by 2040 those vehicles that transport less than 7,500 kilos will be, and then all cargo vehicles in the country. “This implies transformations, for example that towards the year 2035 we are thinking about the closure of the ANCAP refinery in La Teja. The transition goes towards the electrical in vehicles of smaller size and to the hydrogen in vehicles of load and transport ”.
