Madrid Spain.- Cuban actor Gabriel Wood, son of Patricio Wood and grandson of Salvador Wood, arrived in Miami, United States, after a 23-day journey that began in Nicaragua.
Gabriel Wood, 26, arrived in the northern country with his wife, his three-year-old daughter and his father-in-law.
On the migratory route, in an interview for the program “Maca’s House”reported that they were robbed on one of the buses they were on in Sinaloa, Mexico, but they did not lose the money because it was hidden in a teddy bear belonging to their daughter.
He also declared that “he had planned to leave a long time ago,” especially because he considered that “his daughter could not grow up in such a system,” “he could not even allow his daughter to go to school,” and the “situation in Cuba is horrible”.
“The last cup that filled the glass was the July 11and things that happened to my colleagues,” he specified.
Although her mother and brother live in the United States, she opted for the Central American migration path due to delays in the claim processes, which she did not want to continue waiting for.
“It’s hard because you were born (in Cuba), it’s your idiosyncrasy, your country, your values,” but “when you live in a dictatorship or you stay and for saying your way of thinking you go to jail or you leave,” he considered.
During the program he also assured that “most of the actors he knows are in favor of a change, of freedom, and many suffered persecution.”
Regarding what he wants for Cuba, he stated: “That individual freedom be respected, that there be democracy, multi-party system so that people can choose who governs them and that there is a free market economy so that people can have prosperity.”
“That politics is not hijacked, that people can prosper and be happy, but for people to be happy and prosper, these kinds of changes have to happen,” he added.
Gabriel Wood graduated from the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in 2020. Upon finishing his studies at ISA, he was part of the Impulso Teatro group directed by the late Alexis Díaz de Villegas.
He took part in the feature films “Nido de mantis” and “El Mayor”. She had recently starred in the Cuban telenovela “Tú”.
