The Lady in White Sissi Abascal, who participated in the protests on July 11 in Cuba, was transferred to prison this Monday, after failing the appeal of her sentence to six years of deprivation of liberty.
Annia Zamora, mother of the activist, suffered “severe pain in her chest” in the Court of Jovellanos, in Matanzas, where the sentence was upheld, she told 14ymedio a familiar font. At the moment he is better, “he is stronger and recovering”, confirmed the opposition Martha Beatriz Roque.
Before being transferred to the hospital, Zamora told Roque that on the outskirts of the court “a tremendous mess was formed” and that “policemen and many patrols” arrived. Sissi Abascal “did not even wear clothes” and “likewise they took her” directly to jail, added the opponent.
Abascal, 23, was accused of attack, contempt and public disorder for manifesting in the park of the town of Carlos Rojas, in Matanzas.
“They are fabricating these crimes for me, because at no time did I hit officer Silvia Martínez Montero and she is accusing me of having done it,” he denounced
The accusation, according to the legal document received last September by the young opposition member, a member of the Pedro Luis Boitel Democracy Party, was carried out by the major of the National Revolutionary Police of the municipality of Jovellanos, Silvia Martínez Montero, and noted that Abascal shouted phrases such as “homeland and life”, “Down with the Castros” and “down with the Revolution,” and that he asked “the local people to join her.”
From that moment, the 23-year-old was in home confinement. “They are fabricating these crimes for me, because at no time did I hit officer Silvia Martínez Montero and she is accusing me of having done it,” Abascal denounced then. “The victims were us. They broke her head, my mother was hit everywhere and my father was unjustly imprisoned for 47 days.”
“I am peaceful. I raise my voice and I will continue shouting what I shouted that day: ‘Change’, ‘freedom’, ‘down with the Castros’,’ down with the dictatorship ‘,’ Díaz-Canel singao ‘,’ freedom for all political prisoners ‘,’ Long live free Cuba ‘,’ homeland and life ‘”, he asserted in a publication on his social networks.
