The National Women’s Institute (INAMU) in coordination with the Governor’s Office, the Colon Police Zone held the “Massive Workshop on Personal Defense for Women” in the framework of the preparation of the activities of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against the Woman 2022.
The activity was held this Wednesday, August 31, in the courtyard of the Colón Governor’s Office with the purpose of providing basic Self-Defense tools to the women who attended.
Self-defense techniques for women are a training instrument that includes a series of elements of knowledge, attitudes, skills and body techniques to combat gender-based violence that women in Panama are exposed to. It seeks to train women for personal strengthening and that they can anticipate, evaluate and know what to do in situations of threat, conflict or aggression.
The opportunity was taken to deliver guides on the use of Pepper Gas as an additional element of defense for women, especially in situations of high aggression identified in women who access the services of the CINAMU, at the national level. Learning will also contribute to overcoming their fears by reinforcing their self-esteem, self-worth and empowerment.
Additionally, the call will also work to record the video of a Campaign against violence against women that will be launched from October as part of the preparatory activities for November 25.
INAMU, as the entity in charge of coordinating and executing the National Policy of Equal Opportunities for Women in Panama, continues to generate innovative activities that guarantee the physical, economic and political autonomy of all women in Panama, without any type of distinction*9
