Colombia-Venezuela binational bridges were inspected by the Minister of Transportation

Recently, the Colombian Transport Minister, Guillermo Reyes González, also visited and inspected the bridges, but on the Colombian side. At that time, the official assured that the sections are suitable for the passage of vehicles, but did not indicate when they could be opened.


The Minister of Transportation, Ramón Velásquez, together with the Vice Minister and the Superior Body of Transportation of the state of Táchira, visited this Wednesday, August 31, the binational bridges that unite Colombia and Venezuela. The authorities inspected the Simón Bolívar international bridge, in San Antonio del Tachira, and the Francisco de Paula Santander, in Ureña.

The visit takes place just in advance of the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations and while expectations are rising for the reopening of the border.

In the afternoon it was learned that the Venezuelan ambassador to Colombia, Félix Plasencia, presented his credentials to the Petro government. While his counterpart Armando Benedetti did it before the administration of Nicolás Maduro on Tuesday, August 30.

Colombia estimates that it could be a maximum of three or four months, but Ambassador Armando Benedetti assured that the Venezuelan president told him that he does not consider that time to be prudent because he is worried about security and drug trafficking.
