This Wednesday marks the 650th day of the process initiated to recover the flow of Lake Ypacaraí, work that was promoted by the National Commission for the Management and Management of Lake Ypacaraí and its Basin (CONALAYPA).
The implementation was given through the “Restoration of the Hydrological Conditions of Lake Ypacaraí” project, which consists of the installation of a geobag dam to regulate its natural outflow through the Salado River.
In this sense, it is highlighted that thanks to the constant maintenance of the emergency dikes, an acceptable and stable level was maintained in the water mirror for more than 2 years, highlights the MOPC.
At the same time, it is highlighted that, despite the great drought in the region and the low flow of the streams that supply water to the lake, it was possible to maintain a level of 30 cm above zero in the hydrometric ruler installed in the Club. Nautico San Bernardino, which has kept a permanent record of the lake’s water level since the 1960s.
The implementation of the structure, added to the work of social awareness among the inhabitants of the area, was essential for the recomposition of the floating and marshy vegetation (camalotes and other aquatic plants) in the Salado riverbed, which fulfill a fundamental function to regulate the flow of the channel and thus collaborate with the natural regulation of the level of Lake Ypacaraí.
SANITATION PLAN
Although the studies of the quality of the water in the lake show a continuous improvement in several parameters, the implementation of the Comprehensive Sanitation Plan for the Lake Ypacaraí Basin (PSICLY), approved by the plenary session of CONALAYPA in the year 2020, is imperative.
It consists of a series of structural and non-structural measures that seek to clean up the Lake basin and reduce the pollution that reaches Lake Ypacaraí directly or indirectly through its tributaries.
