The investigative journalist Mary Triny Zea spoke this Wednesday about an investigation she carried out for the digital newspaper Bloomberg Línea, which indicates that the European Union (EU) maintains Panama as a non-cooperative country in the fight against illegal fishing since 2019.

The communicator explained that this report reveals that there are systemic failures and that the situation in Panama is very serious, that the application of the law is very weak and our country is not able to comply internationally. “We are dealing with an environmental issue, which has serious consequences for Panama,” she said.

Zea recalled that last June, an EU delegation visited Panama in order to review the country’s progress in terms of practices and regulations to discourage illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.
