MADRID, Spain.- Cuban rapper and political prisoner Maykel “Osorbo” Castillo suggested that he is willing to go into exile to obtain his freedom.
“If a door were opened to me right now, where I could go out into exile, brother, I go. You understand? I go out with the commitment, but standing up, ”said the protesting musician during a telephone dialogue from prison with businessman Armando Labrador, owner of the YouTube channel sing it tv.
The audio was revealed during the program, hosted by independent journalist Esteban Rodríguez, who stressed that Maykel Osorbo needs to leave the island due to her delicate state of health.
Osorb, winner of two Grammy Awards, suffer from lumps under the skin whose causes are not known.
“Since it became known that he is sick, different steps have been taken so that he can go out and be treated. We don’t know whether or not these efforts are going to work, because Maykel is a prisoner in Cuba. Ultimately, if they are going to let him out or not, only State Security knows, ”explained the art historian Anamely Ramos, invited to the space.
Ramos, very close to the artist and whom the regime prohibits from entering Cuba, explained that everything she and other activists have been doing for the musician’s release has been a “very long process.”
The opponent confirmed to the independent media DNA that, although Maykel Osorbo had not declared it publicly, he is willing to leave Cuba if they give him “the opportunity.”
When his lymph nodes began to swell, “that’s when Maykel started to get scared. (…) Until that moment, Maykel had kept telling me that even if they blackmailed him, he was not going to leave Cuba, that he preferred to be in prison,” said the opponent.
Maykel Osorbo has been deprived of liberty for more than a year. He was arbitrarily detained at his home in Havana on May 18, 2021 by State Security officials. After 12 days of disappearance, the Cuban regime reported that Osorbo was in the prison Kilo 5, in Pinar del Río.
The sentence against Maykel Osorbo was published on June 24, 2022 through a statement issued by the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).
