The senators who are members of the Economy Commission agreed on Tuesday to officiate the Ministry of Economy so that it details the scope and magnitude of the computer attack that is affecting the National Consumer Service (Sernac), which has already been hacked for six days.
Carmen Gloria Aravena (IND) was the one who requested it in this morning’s session, arguing that it is a “no minor” issue and that “there is still no solution”, since the hacking that has problems with the platform of attention to consumers, the website and that it would be affecting the service’s database.
The senator added that “the issue of cybersecurity is very sensitive and there is an important database of consumers that is at risk.”
Likewise, the president of the Economy Commission, José Miguel Durana (UDI) specified that the portfolio led by Nicolás Grau will be asked for “a complete report on the Sernac problem” and did not rule out calling the ministry or the service to the next commission if the problem continues.
From a statement published by the National Consumer Service, they are in coordination with the Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) of the Ministry of the Interior to determine the scope and consequences of the violation.
What happened is already in the hands of the Public Ministry for investigation and to determine possible responsibilities.
Due to the fact that hacking of the service has not yet been completely regulated, the CSIRT issued an alert for “the community of the State and entities in a collaboration agreement to pay special attention to this threat”, giving some recommendations, such as “count with backups for your most important data and processes.
