According to match statistics published by the tournament’s website, Yuji Nishida was the executioner of the Caribbean team by getting 19 points, while Jesús Herrera stood out with 20 points on his account.
The Cuban high command had to alternate the passers again, but they never found themselves in the game, they had a poor receiving level and once again the service showed very low numbers.
On the day, the favorite team from Brazil beat Qatar in straight sets with scores of 25-13, 25-23 and 25-24, and took advantage of their superiority to line up several players who are not starters. With the victory they consolidated as the undefeated leaders, while Cuba (1-2) remains in third position, still with the possibility of advancing to the next round, depending on the results of the next two dates.
If they achieve it as one of the best third places, the Caribbean cast would improve their place with respect to the previous event in the world (18), since they would already be among the first 16 places in the tournament.
The expectations for the team in this tournament have grown within the Cuban fans in the midst of the drought of good international results at the highest level that the island’s team sports have achieved.
In recent months, the cast under the orders of Nicolás Vives, which has been joined by some players who until now had no links with the Cuban Volleyball Federation (FCV)achieved important triumphs at the continental level and in the World Challenger held in South Korea, which allowed him to qualify for the League of Nations next year.
For these performances, the contribution of young figures who have been inserted into the most competitive leagues on the planet has also been vital, taking advantage of the change in the Cuban government’s policy for hiring athletes abroad.
