Controversy generated the measure that the Ministry of Education (Mineduc) had announced to eliminate the national scores in the Higher Education Access Test (PAES). Faced with the disputed decision, the Undersecretary of Education herself, Veronica Figueroadismissed the ad.
To remember that this measure ran for the admission process for higher education will begin at the end of November of this year. Figueroa insisted that there will be no elimination of national scores, but there will be a new form of distinction for the student’s educational trajectory, as a form of better distribution for the recognition of good scores.

The undersecretary added that this decision was made jointly by the technical committee for access to universities, so it is a political agreement on this issue.
Given this, the rector of the University of Chile, Rosa Devesin an interview with Bio Bio Radio, He specified that they seek to understand the merit of the students in a more complex way, pointing out that it is the right direction. The idea is to add the students’ trajectory to their final score.
For his part, the rector of the Pontifical Catholic University, Ignacio Sanchez, also valued the measure, since it would prevent the rankings that occur among educational establishments with national scores. However, he believes that universities should report how many maximum scores their respective institutions reached.
