The head of state, peter castlereceived the pro tempore presidency of the Andean Community (CAN) for the period 2022 – 2023. This position was handed over to him by his counterpart from Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso.
The activity was held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the CAN, in Lima, where the XXII Meeting of the Andean Presidential Council was also held.
After receiving the presidency of the CAN, Castillo Terrones stated that Peru will work to make the commitments made this Monday, August 29, during the summit a reality. This, with the purpose of closing the gaps for the benefit of the peoples of the Andean Community.
Before taking office, the president had a bilateral meeting with his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petrowithin the framework of the XXII Meeting of the Andean Presidential Council.
During his participation in the event, Petro pointed out that it would be positive to expand the Andean Community and add countries such as Chile, Venezuela and Argentina.
“How nice it would be if the Andean Community could expand. If we integrate Chile, Venezuela and Argentinaour voice would be heard more clearly on world stages”, said the Colombian head of state.
For his part, the Bolivian president, Luis Arcecalled for greater cooperation and solidarity with the region to achieve the goal of joining the CAN to other countries in the region.

“We must demonstrate the greatest opening of work to specify mechanisms for the incorporation of new and former members of our integration process”, He expressed.
Subsequently, the President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo Terronesreceived his peers from Ecuador at the Government Palace, William Lasso Mendoza; from Bolivia, Luis Arce Catacora, and from Columbia, Gustavo Petro Urrego.
