Due to suspicions about the origin of the flour, they suspend the sale of Home Deli bread on 3rd and 70th

The private business Home Deli no longer sells bread in its physical stores. This was confirmed to this newspaper by an employee of the mipyme that this Monday managed the area of this business in the supermarket of 3rd and 70th. This state market has been selling Home Deli food for a few months, when it was announced by the caribbean chain.

This weekend, this firm was the subject of controversy when a complaint on social networks was reproduced by various independent media. “Whoever wants bread should buy it at 3rd and 70”, lamented the user Iyawo Olo Oshun in a Facebook post, in which he also gave an idea of the prices of the products: 3.75 MLC (freely convertible currency) a bag with four baguettes, 6.90 MLC each small pizza.

Immediately, the private label was the object of suspicion, since bread in Cuba is experiencing one of its worst crises due to flour shortage. Some businesses that have in common that they are few, private and very, very expensive seem to get rid of it. One of them is Home Deli.

The company sells itself as “a chain of markets” based in Havana that sells “high-quality” gastronomic and household products.

The company sells itself as “a chain of markets” based in Havana that sells “high-quality” gastronomic and household products. They even say on their Facebook page: “We have our own Gastronomic Laboratory where we guarantee varied and unique products.”

In addition to the store on 3rd and 70th and home delivery, Home Deli has two of its own premises in the capital: one, on 19th Avenue between 74th and 76th, in the municipality of Playa, and another on 318 Daoiz Street, between Colon and Pizarro, in Cerro.

Others MSMEs, What the gelatoalso with a point of sale in the municipality of Playa in Havana, offers a variety of breads ranging from the Vienna type, through mold flavored with onion or garlic, to a sophisticated croissant. Even in times of greatest shortage of wheat flour, these particular businesses seem to be unaffected by shortages.

The access to raw materials that these businesses have is striking, when the Island is plunged into unprecedented scarcity. Similarly, it is striking luxury that its products represent, compared to the terrible quality of the cellar bread, recognized even by the official press.

In any case, the sale of bread in MLC is another clear sign of its progressive disappearance in national currency, something unthinkable until just a few months ago.
