The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, awarded the Order of Liberators and Liberators of Venezuela, in the first post-mortem class, to Professor Mario Sanoja Obediente, who died last Saturday, August 27.
The information was released by the Minister for Culture, Ernest Villegaswho, through his Twitter account, indicated that the distinction was received by Sanoja’s wife, Iraida Vargas.
On Saturday the mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, decreed three days of municipal mourning in honor of the former Chronicler of the city.
Likewise, Minister Villegas highlighted, on Twitter, that the University Choir of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) paid tribute to the writer at the funeral.
“Emotional interpretation of the UCV anthem by the University Choir during the funeral of Professor Mario Sanoja Obediente, distinguished Venezuelan academic and revolutionary,” he said.

Upon hearing the news of the death, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, expressed his heartfelt condolences to the wife and family of the writer Mario Sanoja.
“We bid farewell to the great historian and anthropologist, Dr. Mario Sanoja Obediente. A teacher of generations who made brilliant and invaluable contributions to the rescue of the history of Venezuela”, emphasized the Head of State.
The writer Mario Sanoja Obediente was born in 1934 in the city of Caracas and passed away this Saturday, August 27, 2022, at the age of 88.
His works were immortalized in 70 books, among which are: Sociocultural History of the Venezuelan Economy (2011); From Capitalism to Socialism of the XXI Century- Perspective from Critical Anthropology (2012); The Dawn of the Venezuelan Society (2013); and together with Iraida Vargas Arenas: Towards a Theory of Communal Society (2019) and La Fragua del Bravo Pueblo (2018).
