On Sunday, August 28, the political prisoner and leader of the Nicaraguan University Alliance (AUN) Lesther German He was visited for the tenth time at the Judicial Assistance Directorate (DAJ) in Managua, known as “El Nuevo Chipote”, where he has been held since July 5, 2021.
After knowing the situation that the young opponent is going through, the university organization reported through a statement that his relatives indicated that Alemán has “serious” medical problems in his right leg, and also suffers from tachycardia and migraine.

“His lawyer and family have repeatedly requested specialized medical attention and access to his clinical file or that he be allowed an independent doctor who can make an accurate diagnosis and provide the pertinent treatment before his situation worsens to such an extent that he leaves lifelong physical sequelae and difficulties in walking or moving around,” said AUN.
Article 66 tried to communicate with the family of the prisoner of conscience to learn more about the situation he is going through in the prisons of the dictatorship and also to know if there were restrictions during the visit, however contact could not be established.
Max Jerez remains firm
Another of the AUN leaders to be visited —on Saturday, August 27— was Max Sherry. According to his relatives, “despite the confinement and the loss of his mother,” the political prisoner “has endured this process with great resilience.”
They also appreciate all the signs of solidarity, closeness “support and strength” of their friends and family. Jerez is one of the political prisoners whom the dictatorship did not allow to say goodbye to his mother, Heydi Mezadeceased on September 17, 2021.
For his part, Douglas Castro Quezada, a member of the executive council of AUN, told Article 66 that despite the captivity experienced by the two political prisoners, they are still “quite strong; They are serene people and they know the consequences and what this fight has cost.
«Their morale is still very high, they encourage us to continue fighting, but to take care of ourselves. The message for the people of Nicaragua is that they do not cease their demands for freedom », he added.

Regarding the situation that they live inside El Chipote, Castro Quezada indicated that the objective of the dictatorship is “to break them morally”, but that is clear to them, and that is why they try to stay strong.
This Monday, Alemán and Jerez celebrate 420 days of being imprisoned in the Directorate of Judicial Assistance, designated as a torture center and where more than thirty political prisoners are held.
The leaders of AUN were arrested on July 5, 2021, a few months before the presidential elections of November 2021, in a day of hunting opponents that included seven presidential candidates who would try to snatch the Nicaraguan Presidency from the dictator from the polls. Daniel Ortega.
Max Jerez and Lesther Aleman were each sentenced to 13 years in prison. They were accused by the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo for the crime of “conspiracy to undermine national integrity.”
