MIAMI, United States. — Cuban activist José Elías González Agüero told CubaNet passages about his life as an opponent of the Castro regime, which, he says, has implemented a system that has plunged the Island into misery.
Born in Bayamo, former province of Oriente, González Agüero is the son of Elías Manuel González, who was the founder of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and the National Revolutionary Police (PNR).
His father, who died in 2019, fought against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista and “gave his life to the Revolution” of Fidel Castro.
“As a reward, he received abandonment. He spent a lot of time away from his children and from his family and now I am here, opposing, and all my brothers are in the United States, ”said the opponent.
With an extensive career as a trade unionist and, later, as an entrepreneur, José Elías González Agüero serves as national coordinator of the Union for Free Cuba Party (PUNCLI). He is, at the same time, managing leader of the Emilia Project together with Dr. Oscar Elías Biscet.
For the activist, one of the biggest lies of the Island regime is the existence of a working class represented by unions.
“Here, union work has no function, it is merely decorative. They want the world to see that there is trade union activity in Cuba, but that really does not exist,” he declared.
José Elías González Agüero lived for a time in the United States, a period that stands out for the fact that he was able to work in various jobs. However, he decided to return to Cuba given the impossibility of his family leaving the island.
“I lived in the United States for a while and was able to get ahead just with my job. In a short time I was able to do much more than in Cuba. So what is it that is not working, what they call capitalism or what they call communism? What does not work is communism, which does not work, ”she expressed.
In his youth, González Agüero also ventured into baseball, a sport from which he was separated due to the sale of games. his is the book Majaha volume that recounts stories of corruption in Cuban baseball, including those of many players who sold games in order to survive and feed their families.
