Silvio Rodríguez: “Our government makes a serious mistake when it prevents the people from taking relief actions”

MADRID, Spain.- “I think our government makes a serious mistake when it prevents the people from taking relief actions,” Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez considered this Sunday, after President Miguel Díaz-Canel referred to Cubans protesting the unsustainable blackouts as “indecent people and vandalism”.

Rodríguez, who in recent times has issued comments critical of the situation in Cuba, although always making his position in tune with the regime clear, he considered that “this contradiction will have to be resolved or the people will end up confronting the government.”

In the statements from his blog “Second date” He added that he does not repudiate those who cannot take it anymore and defends the right of everyone to exploit themselves and say what they feel.

However, the musician echoed once again the discourse of the regime that blames the US embargo for the crisis that the Island is going through.

“I do believe that the blockade is what prevents us the most, what delays us the most, what confuses us the most. Because constant pain blinds. Knowing that, they made torture a law, so that not even the torturers themselves could stop it, ”he said about it.

In relation to the energy situation, he considered that “intense work has been done and is being worked on”.

“I’m sure inventing, taking even from where we don’t have. I suppose that many workers in that sector right now are comparable in dedication to workers in science, health and education. But it is obvious that our way of generating energy has no future. I think that, because it is a strategic issue, of survival, in this sense we have to be radical and even make sacrifices, because our lives depend on it. There is no other than to put ourselves in body and soul for renewable energies”, added Silvio Rodríguez.

This Sunday, Díaz-Canel affirmed that the energy crisis in Cuba is a consequence of the embargo imposed by the United States, “which has left the country without the necessary financing to modernize its energy infrastructure”; just as he pointed out that “the breakdowns and failures that most of the plants have suffered have not been caused by sabotage or negligence, but are the result of the economic sanctions imposed by Washington.”
