With the supposed figure of 29,124 returned Venezuelans, the government of Nicolás Maduro celebrated the four years of the so-called “Plan Vuelta a la Patria” that it launched on August 27, 2018 to facilitate the return of migrants from various countries.
In a message on Twitter, the Foreign Minister, Carlos Fariadetailed that these Venezuelans returned “from 22 countries on 167 flights and a maritime transfer” that were carried out, even during the covid-19 pandemic, a contingency during which 11,352 of the total number of returned citizens did so “safely”.
In Faría’s opinion, this represents a significant scope, despite the innumerable “attacks and blockades faced” by the government.
Last February, Nicolás Maduro assured that the Venezuelans who left the country were looking for a “better economic opportunity”, but there has been “a lot of discrimination, a lot of xenophobia that has been sown against Venezuela.” For this reason, he promised that from March the flights of the Plan Vuelta a la Patria would triple.
On March 23, 2022, the Maduro government announced that the number of returned nationals was 27,816, that is, if we compare it with the 29,124 who returned until yesterday, 1,308 Venezuelans returned in a period of five months. While on August 12 the mayor of New York, Eric Adams, said that in New York alone he has given shelter, since May, to 5,000 asylum seekers and migrants.

In this sense, the number of Venezuelan migrants and refugees distributed by different countries of the world already exceeds 6.81 million, according to a new count of the initiative that brings together the UN and other aid organizations to respond to the migration crisis.

On August 17, the president of the Red Cross of Panama, Elías Solís, stated that the migratory flow in July 2022 has not dropped below 1,000 people a day and that just the day before, 1,100 people were received in one of the migrant reception points. He stressed that most are from Venezuela.
He revealed that there was an increase in the number of migrants between June and July of this year of 9,000 people, since in June 10,000 were counted and in July, 19,000 migrants who crossed the Darién.
