Mevir and the Ministry of Housing delivered the first 10 units of the scattered housing solutions plan in Sauce, Canelones. These are houses built on private land in urban and rural areas. The president of Mevir, Juan Pablo Delgado, pointed out that a project of 75 nucleated houses is being worked on. A total of 400 people will be installed in both.
Also participating in the activity, held on Tuesday 23 at the premises of the homes of two program participants, were the undersecretary of the aforementioned ministry, Tabaré Hackenbruch; the director of Housing and Citizen Coexistence of the Municipality of Canelones, Rodrigo Amengual; the mayor of the town of Sauce, Rubens Ottonello, and other departmental authorities.
Delgado stressed that this inauguration integrates a plan to build scattered homes on the participants’ own land and that they were involved in the building process. He considered that it is part of the essence of Mevir to work in rural areas in order to cooperate in the establishment of small communities and neighborhoods.
This set of scattered houses includes productive units, with a shed, a water well, and improvements for farm work. The hierarch indicated that, instead of waiting for a joint delivery, once 10 or 15 units are completed, they will be inaugurated. In this sense, he explained that 10 houses were handed over on the day, some located in the urban area and others in the rural area, with between two and four bedrooms.
He added that, in Sauce, in addition, a plan of 75 nucleated houses is being sought that will be inaugurated next year. These two projects will provide housing solutions for nearly 400 people.
Hackenbruch, meanwhile, pointed out that, with the new budget, Mevir will have an important reinforcement that will allow it to continue works throughout the country. He stated that this will make it possible to build 150 more houses. The hierarch reminded the beneficiaries of the importance of paying the fee, since it allows them to continue “building community.”
He also said that in the department of San José, a pilot plan is being developed for the productive sector, aimed at people already settled in the territory who need to reform or expand the areas destined for work.
