In 2011 the work “Heróicas al Indómito Urracá”, written by Panamanian author Samid Sandoval, was awarded in Sonora, Mexico and ruled by the Academy of the Monterrey Technological Institute with the maxim “First Epic of America” written by an inhabitant of this continent.
Sandoval explained that 10 years have passed since the decoration of this work, and now he returns to Mexico City, where The Collegiate of Writers and the Arts, in the midst of a pandemic, has told him that after a decade, “Heróicas al Indomito Urracá “, remains the only Epic of America born in Panama for the world.
“For the second time, this country of more than 130 million inhabitants, which has prestigious Writers and Editorials, recognizes the arduous literary and historical work that I have contributed to the development of our countries, it makes me feel highly grateful for such a dignifying episode that it is mine, but of a whole Panamanian people who carry in their veins the blood of the indomitable and brave chief Urracá who fought tirelessly against the Spanish yoke, “said the writer and politician from Veracruz.
The mayor of Santiago de Veraguas, also thanked Mexico, God, his family and his people for this great recognition, noting that poets live by dreams and ideals that are difficult to achieve, “thank you for the special affection of magical people who they value my poems and writings and that, on a daily basis, they invite me to continue cultivating this everlasting journey “, he said.
During this recognition visit, Sandoval delivered to Mexico his latest work “Two Hundred Inspirations Under a Quarantined Sun” for the Library of Fine Arts and some copies to the College of Writers and Arts to be of appropriate use for new Mexican writers.
Mayor Samid Sandoval stated that it was a great Christmas gift to receive this recognition by the literary family of Mexico, while calling on Santiago de Veraguas and all of Panama, to continue taking care of themselves and their families in the face of the increase in Covid cases. , highlighting that “the best defense against the pandemic is in our hands.”
